The ONSHORE-OFFSHORE source-to-sink course, southern NORWAY
CONTENT
This course focuses on the relationship between the onshore geology of western Norway and the highly prolific North Sea and Norwegian Sea basins. While the stratigraphy of the offshore basins is not preserved and present onshore, the regional structural geology and onshore landscape show evidence of links shaped in deep time since the late Paleozoic and still prominent in the current spectacular landscape. The onshore regions acted as sediment sources and the major structures, now partly interlinked with and exposed as scenically attractive fjords, acted as sediment routes to the offshore sinks with direct links to the exploration potential. These relationships resemble those of other margins, such as along African and South American margins, and provide key learning points for global exploration.
target groups
This course is relevant for exploration and production geoscientists and their teams working regional geology in Norway and on the Norwegian Continental Shelf but also those working global exploration and their teams. General concepts will be presented that apply to several margins globally. The focus will be on the total exploration case in a source-to-sink context, relevance for the total business case and exploration strategy. Therefore, the content also applies to managers and leaders. Depending on who participates, the content and discussion can be adjusted. Previously management teams and non-geologists have attended where the technical content was tuned to the level of expertise and issues discussed centered around the total business case and risks and appreciation of the landscape and its geological significance.
